“What’s that guy doing with our suitcase!?” Emma asks me with panic laced through her words. We’d arrived at Cancun airport and after stepping off the aircraft into the blistering Mexico heat and shuttling to the main terminal, we were greeted by an army of blue-shirted men waiting to carry all of our luggage in exchange for a small tip. The truth is, we’re British. We had just flown from the most miserable, unhelpful and obnoxious country I know of (see: Brexit) and we weren’t expecting somebody to actually try and be helpful like this. In hindsight, I could probably have managed just fine without suitcase guy helping me, but the experience sticks with me as a vivid memory and my first experience of Mexico moments after leaving our 10 hour flight. This is just one of the many small things me and my wife have experienced on our travels that inspired me to start writing a blog.
Flying in toward Cancun airport from the U.K
I used to be quite reserved about sharing personal stories like this, but I am now of the mindset that life is an adventure and it should be experienced, relished and enjoyed. I wanted to share some of my adventures with the world. Who knows, maybe it’ll inspire people to get out there and have adventures of their own? At the very least, if nobody reads this, it provides me with a way to re-live those memories. As I sit here on the eve of my 26th birthday, on an overcast April afternoon in Devon, England, my fingers dance across the keyboard and my mind replays frame by frame the events of the first day of our Mexican honeymoon. I realise there are hundreds of stories I could share and I am excited about the possibility of doing so.
Some of you will know that I’ve recently gained a lot of confidence and become no stranger to sharing mine and Emma’s adventures with the world. Long before I started writing a blog, I began uploading videos and vlogs to my Youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/c/cptnmingo which I fully encourage you to take a look at, just in case you like what you see!
My little hobby just passed the 100 subscribers mark and I still can’t believe that people actually watch what we make.
I’m also no stranger to writing blog entries as it happens. If you are so inclined, you could check out this link emmaandsteve.are.gettingmarried.co.uk/Wedding_Blog where I wrote a blog in the run up to our wedding. I know you have to be careful what you put out online these days as it could be misconstrued or used against you, but if I can’t share the adventure that is my life with my friends and family, then what’s the point in having those adventures in the first place?
Welcome to my blog. I hope you enjoy it, feel free to leave me a comment or an emoji or whatever it is these days and join Emma and I as we try to live our lives in the most fun way possible. Speak soon! Ciao.
